Shatner roast. Not funny.

Tag: GeneralJosh @ 12:52 am

I watched the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner this evening. For some reason, I expected it to be funny. And about Shatner. It was neither.

There were more jokes about George Takei (Sulu from Star Trek) being gay (including some delivered by Takei himself) than material on Bill Shatner. What is this? Another “let’s mainstream being gay” attempt, or a roast of William Shatner? I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything more from a trashy liberal outlet like Comedy Central, but it was still disappointing.

Rachel’s Birthday Party

Rachel’s 3rd birthday is Sunday, and we invited some of her friends to the park for a birthday party today. The kiddos had lots of fun…

David was right. I was wrong.

Tag: GeneralJosh @ 11:00 pm

David and I had a little disagreement about the order of the Crocodile Dundee movies yesterday on the way home from work. He thought the first movie took place in New York, and the second movie was in Australia. I thought it was just the opposite. Upon arriving home, I quickly checked IMDB and discovered my error.

There you go David. Self imposed public humiliation. Happy now?

Baby Bottles and Squirrels

Tag: GeneralJosh @ 12:03 am

I gave Levi his first bottle today. Jamie has been nursing him, but we tried a bottle today just to see if he’d take it. We also needed to clear out some of the breast milk in our freezer! We don’t want him to be completely reliant on mommy, just in case she has to have her gall bladder removed. You think I’m joking, but a friend of ours who is nursing her infant just had that procedure. Her daughter is about 6 weeks older than Levi.

Before we gave him the bottle, Jamie warned me not to be surprised if he wouldn’t take it, since he was used to getting his nourishment the old fashioned way. Turns out that my boy just likes to eat and doesn’t care what the instrument of food disbursment looks like!

In other news…

I have a great deal of respect for squirrels. I admire their agility, their playful nature, and their seemingly tireless efforts to dig up my yard to bury nuts. Today, I found they aren’t always so agile.

I was playing with Rachel in the back yard after work this evening when I glimpsed a small furry gray thing drop to the ground about 5 feet away with a rather loud thud. To my surprise, a squirrel had fallen from a nearby pine tree. The lowest limb on that tree is about 25 feet high, so even if it fell from that limb, it was a pretty substantial fall.

I’m happy to report that I have added “resilience” to the list of squirrel traits I admire. It immediately dashed back up the tree like nothing happened. If I had fallen from half that height, I’d still be laying there moaning. I’m positive I wouldn’t be able to walk, much less run up a tree.

Stump-B-Gone

Tag: Baby NewsJosh @ 10:13 pm

Levi lost the stump of his umbilical today. His belly button is still oozing a little bit (gross!), but this is normal and it should dry up and look like a normal naval pretty soon.

He was two weeks old Wed, and so far, he’s a VERY good baby. He hardly ever fusses, and when he does fuss, it’s usually because he’s hungry. Once his belly gets full, he’s a happy camper again.

Hopefully he will remain a calm baby. His big sister has NEVER been calm, so we are really digging this!
